Forsyth County Busted Mugshots
A mugshot gets taken at booking. Alongside it, the county builds a custody entry: the person's name, a booking number, the date, charge labels, bond or process details, the holding facility, and whatever status the custodian publishes. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office runs the main detention hub here. It is called the Law Enforcement Detention Center, or LEDC. Arrests often come from the Winston-Salem Police Department or the Kernersville Police Department, yet the county jail holds the person and keeps the booking record. Clemmons falls to FCSO Community Policing.
That chain has gaps. Someone just booked may not show up online until intake and data entry finish. Once bond is posted, a person can drop off the live roster even though the agency still keeps the booking record. State prisoners belong in a North Carolina Department of Adult Correction search instead. Federal or immigration custody runs through separate locators entirely.
Read the charge with care. A booking entry marks one custody event in Forsyth County. That is all it shows. It says nothing about who is still behind bars now.
Forsyth Booking Record Fields
Start with the FCSO catalog for anyone in county custody. Filter names and public fields can shift, so confirm them in the live interface. Secondary indexes help too. They list the common fields that tie a name to the right booking record. The booking number and date do that job best. A name alone is weak proof, especially in a county full of shared names.
| Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Name | The name entered at intake. Compare it with the court case and other official details. |
| Booking or inmate number | A local identifier useful for separating people with similar names. |
| Booking date and time | When the person entered the custody record, not necessarily when the incident occurred. |
| Release date and status | Whether the entry describes current custody, release, transfer, or another status. |
| Charges as booked | Initial charge labels from the arresting or committing agency. |
| Bond or process | A pretrial condition or court process, not a sentence or finding of guilt. |
| Agency and facility | The arresting agency and the place holding the person, such as LEDC. |
| Photo and court information | An available identification image or limited court field. The full docket belongs to eCourts and the Clerk. |
Copied pages sometimes carry incomplete or mistaken physical descriptors. Some content stays out of public lookups entirely. That includes sensitive data, juvenile material, sealed records, victim details, and protected investigative content. At most, a record shows that someone entered a custody system through a law-enforcement or court process.
Request Forsyth Booking Records
The FCSO incident-record instructions point requests to the Records Division. It sits on the second floor of Sheriff Administration, 301 North Church Street, Winston-Salem. Walk-in hours run 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, minus county holidays. The posted process covers records that already exist. A front page can be picked up in person. A full report, or a suspect/offender report, may take a court order.
- Write the person’s name, booking date, booking number if known, arresting agency, and the specific existing booking or intake record requested.
- Bring a current North Carolina driver license or North Carolina identification card and the report number when one exists.
- Ask for an existing booking photograph and associated record, if public and not exempt. Request a fee estimate before chargeable copies are made.
- Ask the Records Division to identify the legal basis for any withholding. Requests received after 4 p.m. are handled the next business day under the posted instructions.
No FCSO source lists a booking-photo fee or a guaranteed turnaround time. Chapter 132 of state law, especially N.C. Gen. Stat. § 132-1.4, draws the boundary around public criminal-investigation records. A request never forces an agency to write a new report, unlock juvenile or sealed material, or hand over a photo.

State custody requests belong with NCDAC, not the county jail. WSPD keeps its own arrest records for WSPD arrests plus some sheriff arrests. Certified court dispositions come from the Forsyth County Clerk. KPD holds its own reports. So the arresting agency matters. For any request, the county's own public records instructions control, not a third-party index. The official Records Division page carries the current local route and its instructions.
North Carolina Mugshot Law
North Carolina treats arrest records as public, within limits. Chapter 132, through Section 132-1.4, opens up basics like the arrested person's name and physical description, the charge, and when and where the arrest happened. Warrants, indictments, and summonses can be public too, unless a court seals or restricts them. None of that amounts to a rule that booking photos must appear online. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 15A-502 lets agencies photograph and fingerprint people in certain felony and misdemeanor cases, which explains why a photo exists at all. It promises no web display. The sheriff's current catalog can show custody details with no picture, since the Records Division must weigh exemptions, court orders, juvenile rules, and investigative limits.
What about pay-to-remove mugshot sites? No enacted North Carolina statute bans that practice. House Bill 778 would have restricted agencies from giving pretrial photos to publishers that charge for takedowns or fixes. It stalled in Senate Rules on May 4, 2023, and never became law.
If a case ended in your favor, expunction may clear the public record. The North Carolina Judicial Branch expunction explanation and the current AOC forms spell out the paths. Section 15A-146 covers dismissals, not-guilty findings, and similar outcomes. Separate statutes handle youthful first offenses and some nonviolent matters. Filing usually costs $175, and eligibility, timing, and exclusions vary by case. One caution: an expunction cleans public records but cannot recall every private copy already made.
Getting a correction should cost nothing. RecentlyBooked and Busted Newspaper each publish free request policies for wrong, outdated, dismissed, sealed, expunged, duplicate, or juvenile entries. Go through the exact county-local source page and send whatever proof it asks for. Mugshots Zone has no Forsyth-specific adult process, and Arrests.org's "Record Removal" heading is not a documented free procedure. Walk away from anyone demanding payment as the only fix. Once the source updates, use Google's Refresh Outdated Content tool or Bing's content-removal guidance to clear stale search results.
How to Find Forsyth Arrests
Start with custody status. It points you to the right system. Someone booked recently or still held in the county jail is a sheriff's office question, and the Forsyth County detention pages answer it. Already released? Then you likely need a records request from the agency that made the arrest. People serving state sentences fall under NCDAC instead. Court outcomes live in a different system entirely. No county search can tell you whether someone is in federal or immigration custody.
- Open the official FCSO inmate catalog and search the available name or record controls.
- Read the full entry, noting the booking number, date, agency, charge labels, facility, bond or process information, and status.
- If the person is absent, consider release, transfer, publication delay, another county, protected status, or a different custody system.
- Identify the arresting agency. Use the WSPD or KPD records route for a city arrest and FCSO Records for a county-held booking record or photo.
- Search North Carolina eCourts by name, county, date, or case number to find later events and disposition.
One county catalog cannot cover every arrest in Forsyth's history. Secondary sites can still help as leads. A copied date, photo, charge, or status means little on its own. It matters only once an official source confirms it. Check with FCSO, the arresting agency, or the Clerk of Court. For anything after booking, the court record is the one that counts.
Where Forsyth Busted Mugshots Appear
Go to official sources first. The table here splits functions apart, showing which sources handle custody, which handle court records, which belong to agencies, and which are news outlets. A photo column labeled "possible" has a specific meaning. It signals that the source might display or hold an image, not that every entry comes with one.
| Channel | Photo? | Status and access |
|---|---|---|
| FCSO inmate catalog | Not confirmed for every entry | Official current county-custody search at the P2C catalog. |
| FCSO Records Division | Request existing image | Official fallback for a public booking or intake record. |
| WSPD or KPD Records | Ask the agency | Arresting-agency reports. Neither route replaces a court disposition. |
| NCDAC offender search | Do not promise a photo | State custody or supervision, not recent LEDC bookings. |
| eCourts and Clerk | Not a mugshot feed | Case events, court orders, and final disposition. |
| Local news | Story-specific | WXII 12, Winston-Salem Journal, and MyFox8 publish selected incidents. |
| RecentlyBooked, Busted Newspaper, Mugshots Zone, Arrests.org | Often shown | Unofficial county indexes that can lag, omit, or retain a record after release. |
Plenty of sites republish Forsyst booking photos, but none of them is an official FCSO feed. RecentlyBooked's Forsyth index frames itself as a rolling last-30-days view with frequent refreshes. Busted Newspaper's county page takes another approach, copying booking-style fields onto its own layout. Two more archives round out the field: Mugshots Zone sorts entries into browsable monthly pages, and Arrests.org's Forsyth index links out to individual date pages. Entries may mention Winston-Salem, Kernersville, or Clemmons when a location was recorded with the booking. Keep one thing in mind, though. These are copied listings, and none covers every city arrest. For anything that matters, the sheriff's custody tools and the court system remain the sources of record.
Busted and Booked at the LEDC
Most people booked in Forsyth County end up in one place. That place is the Law Enforcement Detention Center. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office LEDC page describes it as an adult maximum-security facility holding both pretrial detainees and sentenced misdemeanants. It serves the whole county. No city in the area runs its own lockup. To see who is in custody right now, the county points visitors to the FCSO P2C inmate catalog. That catalog is the live source for current custody status. Its search tools and result layout can shift over time. Anyone checking on a specific person should go there directly rather than trust secondhand copies. The LEDC page supplies the facility details and booking context for the county's central detention operation.

Note: The image shown here illustrates the official facility source, not a gallery of booking photos from the jail's roster.
| Search or record item | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Name or person control | Start with the recorded name and compare the full entry, not a snippet. |
| Booking or inmate number | Use it to separate same-name entries and sharpen a Records request. |
| Date, agency, charge, or status | Use available fields to distinguish a recent county booking from a process return. |
| Photo | Check the official entry. If no image appears, ask Records about an existing public photo. |
- Open the current FCSO inmate catalog.
- Search the available name or record fields.
- Open the individual result and record custody status, facility, booking date, and any identifier.
- Compare the charge labels with eCourts before drawing any conclusion.
How current is the roster? The Sheriff's Office does not commit to a fixed update schedule. Nothing hourly or daily is promised. An arrest has to move through intake, screening, and data entry before a name shows up online. So the live roster reflects a moment in time, nothing more. Someone released from LEDC can vanish from it fast. A private archive may still hold an older copy of that same record. The State Archives schedule governs the underlying paperwork, keeping non-medical inmate incarceration records three years after release or transfer, but that says nothing about what stays visible on the web.
The department also offers an official Forsyth Co. Sheriff's Office mobile app, described as a tool for community resources, reporting, prevention, and contact. Its Google Play listing spells out the same features. Nowhere does it promise an inmate catalog or booking photos. Treat the app as a community tool, not a mugshot feed.
Recent Forsyth Bookings and Feed Limits
For a same-day look at Forsyth County bookings, the old official route was the Police to Citizen daily bulletin at http://p2c.fcso.us/dailybulletin.aspx. That platform supported incident, arrest, and inmate searches. It has since moved to the `forsythsheriffnc.policetocitizen.com` host. Nobody has confirmed a 24-hour window, a posting time, or photo behavior on the new host. Treat the legacy path as unverified, not a live feed.
There is no separate official 72-hour, seven-day, or weekly booking bulletin. The historic date search reaches back to January 1, 2008. That shows what the system can search, not a guaranteed rolling feed. For a new booking, start with the current inmate catalog. If the entry is missing, request the record from the agency directly.
The unofficial windows are clearer. RecentlyBooked offers a last-30-days index and reported 839 recent arrests. Mugshots Zone publishes monthly pages. Arrests.org organizes by date. Those figures describe each publisher's own index, not FCSO policy. A weekend gap can mean release, transfer, delay, omission, or a different arresting agency.
Q: Does a blank feed mean no arrest happened? No. The person may have been released, moved, booked elsewhere, shielded from public display, or simply not visible yet. Try the records request and the court path before calling a blank search the final answer.
NCDAC State Offender Search
State custody and state supervision run on a separate track. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction offender-search instructions explain the system. Its public locator sits at webapps.doc.state.nc.us. Search by name. Use an offender identifier if you have one. Common names demand cross-checking, so match age, county, status, and other fields on the live form before you trust a hit.
NCDAC is not the Forsyth booking roster. A pretrial LEDC detainee may not appear there at all. The same goes for someone released on bond or held on a local misdemeanor. The flip side happens too. A state-sentenced person can drop off the county roster and surface in NCDAC. The locator's public profiles do not promise a photo, so treat it as an identity and custody-status tool rather than a state mugshot gallery.
Want a state-held record or photo? Follow NCDAC's current public-record instructions. Ask by name, offender number, and record type. Fees and exemptions vary. A county booking photo remains an FCSO or arresting-agency question.
Booked, Released, or Transferred?
Custody status decides which source will answer you. One booking can pass through several systems, and a record can linger after the live roster changes hands.
| Custody state | Best source | What it can show |
|---|---|---|
| Just booked or currently in LEDC | FCSO inmate catalog | Current county custody, booking details, status, and any visible photo. |
| Released or transferred | FCSO or arresting agency Records | Existing booking, arrest, intake, or release record, subject to access rules. |
| State-sentenced or supervised | NCDAC locator | State adult-correction identity and custody or supervision status. |
| Federal or immigration custody | BOP, ICE, or authorized federal route | Separate federal or immigration custody status, not a county photo. |
| Case outcome | eCourts and Forsyth Clerk | Arraignment, bond orders, later events, dismissal, plea, acquittal, or conviction. |
"Released" only describes custody. It says nothing about the legal outcome, which belongs to the court. A third-party archive may keep showing a person long after release. That copied entry is not a current custody confirmation.
After a Forsyth Booking
Track the case through Forsyth County Courts and North Carolina eCourts. Search by defendant name or case number. Narrow by county and date, then read the docket events. Need a phone? The Forsyth County Clerk's main number is 336-779-6300. The District Attorney directory lists 336-779-6310. WSPD's arrest-record route splits an uncertified arrest record from a certified court-disposition record, so pick the one you actually need.
- Booking
- Intake into a detention or custody system after an arrest or process return.
- Arraignment or first appearance
- An early court event where the case and release conditions may be addressed.
- Bond
- A pretrial release condition, not a sentence.
- Disposition
- The later court result, such as dismissal, not guilty, plea, or conviction.
- Expungement
- A court process that can remove or limit public record entries when a statute allows it.
A booking image and a charge list only tell the intake side of the story. The court docket carries what happened afterward.
Someone can post bond while the case stays open. A failure-to-appear process can bring them back. A transfer after sentencing can move them again. The roster is not the court's file. Nor is a news page or aggregator listing a disposition record.
Federal and Immigration Custody
When a federal sentence or federal imprisonment is in play, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. BOP searches by name or register number and offers no public local-style booking-photo interface. A BOP no-result does not rule out a local arrest, pretrial federal custody, state custody, a county contract placement, or release.
The ICE Online Detainee Locator covers current ICE custody and certain CBP custody situations. It takes an A-number and country of birth, or exact identity fields. The ERO information line is 1-888-351-4024. No current Forsyth ICE detention contract has been confirmed, and U.S. Marshals materials describe privacy limits on prisoner photos. Federal routes are custody locators, not photo sources.
FCSO's Real-Time Intelligence Center takes anonymous photos, video, or text tips at 336-920-8477. The sheriff's alerts route works as a notification or registry service, not a booking feed. Tips can help an investigation. They will not verify a roster entry.
Busted Mugshots by Forsyth City
City arresting agencies and county custody records overlap. They are not the same thing. The population order below comes from PTRC and North Carolina OSBM July 1, 2022 estimates. Each city page keeps the local agency distinction clear. County custody still routes back to LEDC.
- Winston-Salem Busted Mugshots: the county seat, with WSPD arrest-record requests and LEDC custody when applicable.
- Kernersville Busted Mugshots: KPD Records and its Police 2 Citizen route, with county detention checked through FCSO.
- Clemmons Busted Mugshots: no municipal police department located in the reviewed sources, so FCSO Community Policing and county Records are the local starting point.
The estimates put Winston-Salem at 254,200. Kernersville comes in at 27,404. Clemmons sits at 21,408. Those figures reflect the source's ranking, not current population. A story from any of the three places could still lead to a WSPD, KPD, FCSO, state, or federal record. It depends on who made the arrest and where the person is held.
Older Forsyth Booking Records
North Carolina's retention schedules set the official clock for sheriff records. Arrest-processing tracking files last one year under the State Archives schedule. Stand-alone arrest reports get five. Non-medical inmate incarceration records stay on file three years after release or transfer, while case files may follow longer felony or misdemeanor timelines. Nothing gets destroyed while an audit, lawsuit, or other official action is pending or expected, either.
A retention schedule is not a promise, though. Old booking photos do not all land in the State Archives. Instead, search the county box lists and the State Archives catalog by county, agency, record type, and date. When a finding aid points to something useful, ask the Archives staff to confirm they hold it before you pay for copies. One more caution applies here. An old private page can linger online long after the sheriff's own record was lawfully changed or disposed of.
